Family waiting for parade National Rice Festival, Crowley, Louisiana 1938 |
This photo was taken by Russell Lee in 1938 at the National Rice Festival in Crowley, Louisiana for the Farm Security Administration.
According to Linda Terrebonne, "James Curtis Clayton, his wife Tabitha Amy Clayton, Roland Clayton and the two boys on the end were Amy boys, maybe Cookie Amy? The Claytos were my grandparents from Maxie. Roland was their youngest son whose widow lives in Atwood Acres and he has a number of children in the Crowley area. I also remember playing croquet on their front lawn as grandpa sat and watched us from the porch. I was not very good at it and he would laugh at my reactions!!"
According to Sonny Daigle, "I knew Curtis Ray Clayton for a while as a kid. He lived, at the time, along the Iota highway maybe a mile west of Maxie. He was a runner and used to run for miles along the Meridian (now Hetzel) Road. This was sometime in the mid 60's."
According to Clara Clayton Bergeron, "I am the daughter of Roland Clayton cousin to Curtis Ray. The two boys on the end are Cookie (Jc) Amy and his brother Olan."
According to Melanie Choate, "I, also, am the grandchild of Curtis James and Tabitha Clayton. He died at age 72 when I was still in Elementary School. My fondest memory of him was sitting around the wood burning stove in their house in Maxie as he tried to pinch me and my younger sister with his toes. There was a lot of giggling going on."
