Delivering ice to stands (Russell Lee, 1938)

"Delivering ice to stands,
National Rice Festival, Crowley, Louisiana"
1938

This photo was taken by Russell Lee in 1938 at the National Rice Festival in Crowley, Louisiana for the Farm Security Administration.

The man on the left delivering ice is Allen Perry of Crowley.  Married Margaret Baker.

According to Natalie S, "I know he was an only child. Now and then, he would move to Orange, Texas for work, but always came back to Crowley. My Dad, Breaux Perry, was the oldest of 7 children.  Grandpa died when I was very young. Daddy said he had a big heart."2

According to Al Perry, "I remember him working at the ice plant as well and delivering ice to us at 303 West Hutchinson, I could not have been more than 4 or 5 years old at that time.  He was a kind and gentle man, that much I do remember."3
